New Phone, Cracked Screen? iPhone Duo Owners Report Trouble

The excitement of unboxing a new phone usually lasts longer than a few hours. For some iPhone Duo buyers, though, it reportedly ended with a cracked display.

Apple’s first foldable phone opens into a larger, tablet-style screen, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold models. With a $2,000 price tag, it’s a big purchase. Now, some owners are sharing photos of cracks near the folding crease, with bright white lines appearing on the screen.

One buyer said his Duo broke after just six hours and fewer than 20 folds. Users online have started calling the issue “Crackgate.”

Some customers have reportedly received replacement phones from Apple. Others who bought through wireless carriers have had a harder time getting a quick exchange. Apple has not publicly explained the cause, and the number of affected devices remains unclear.

These reports don’t tell us how the Duo will hold up for most buyers. But a screen breaking within hours is enough to take the shine off any new gadget, especially one that costs this much.
